The First Alert SMI110 features a sealed 10-year lithium battery. To activate the battery, you must remove the yellow pull tab located on the back of the unit. Once the tab is removed, the alarm will be powered on. The unit will chirp once to confirm activation.

3.3 Niyanju Placement
For optimal protection, install smoke alarms on every level of your home and inside every bedroom. Consider additional alarms in hallways and living areas. Avoid placing alarms directly above cooking appliances or in areas with high humidity, which can lead to nuisance alarms.

After installation, and at least once a week, test your smoke alarm by pressing and holding the Test/Silence button. In case of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking smoke), press the Test/Silence button to temporarily mute the alarm for approximately 8 minutes. The alarm will automatically reset after this period to ensure continuous protection. If the smoke condition persists, the alarm will reactivate.

The LED indicator light provides visual alerts:
