5.1 Selecting Spindle Speed
The DM460T offers 5 spindle speeds to suit various materials and turning operations. Adjust the belt position on the pulleys inside the headstock to change speeds. Always disconnect power before adjusting belts.
- Available speeds: 650, 1100, 1450, 2000, 3000 RPM.
- Use lower speeds for larger diameter workpieces, roughing cuts, or harder woods.
- Use higher speeds for smaller diameter workpieces, finishing cuts, or softer woods.
5.2 Mounting a Workpiece
- Ensure the workpiece is balanced and free of defects that could cause it to break apart during turning.
- Mount the workpiece securely between the headstock drive center and the tailstock live center.
- Tighten the tailstock firmly to hold the workpiece in place.
- Rotate the workpiece by hand to ensure it clears the tool rest and bed.

Figure 4: A workpiece securely mounted between the headstock and tailstock on the Scheppach DM460T Lathe, ready for turning.
5.3 Adjusting the Tool Rest
- Position the tool rest as close as possible to the workpiece without touching it.
- Adjust the height of the tool rest so that the cutting edge of your turning tool is slightly above the center line of the workpiece.
- Ensure the tool rest is securely locked in position before starting the lathe.
5.4 Bibẹrẹ ati Iduro
- Before starting, ensure all adjustments are tight and the workpiece is secure.
- Turn the lathe ON using the designated power switch.
- Allow the machine to reach full speed before beginning to cut.
- To stop, turn the lathe OFF using the power switch and wait for the spindle to come to a complete stop before approaching the workpiece.
6. Itọju
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your lathe. Always disconnect the machine from the power supply before performing any maintenance.
6.1 Ninu
- After each use, clean wood dust and chips from the lathe bed, headstock, tailstock, and motor housing.
- Use a brush or compressed air. Avoid using water or solvents that could damage electrical components or painted surfaces.
6.2 Lubrication
- Periodically apply a light coat of machine oil to the lathe bed and tailstock quill to ensure smooth movement.
- Do not over-lubricate, as excess oil can attract dust.
6.3 Belt Inspection and Replacement
- Regularly inspect the drive belt for wear, cracks, or damage.
- If the belt shows signs of wear, replace it with an original Scheppach replacement part to maintain optimal performance.
