1. Ifihan
The Tunze Macroalgae Reactor 3181 is an advanced filtration system designed for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It utilizes macroalgae cultivation to naturally reduce nitrates and phosphates, enhance water quality, and provide a refuge for beneficial microfauna. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Macroalgae Reactor to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
2. Awọn Ilana Aabo pataki
- Always disconnect all electrical appliances from the power supply before performing any maintenance or handling the reactor.
- Ensure that the power cord forms a "drip loop" to prevent water from running along the cord and reaching the electrical outlet.
- Do not operate the reactor if any part of it is damaged, especially the power cord or plug.
- This device is intended for indoor use only and must not be submerged in water beyond its operational design.

Follow these steps to properly set up your Tunze Macroalgae Reactor:
- Ibi: Select a stable location for the reactor, preferably in a sump or behind the aquarium, ensuring it is easily accessible for maintenance. The reactor must be placed below the water level of the aquarium or sump to allow for gravity feeding or proper pump operation.
- Sopọ Yika Omi: Connect the inlet hose from your aquarium or sump's water source to the reactor's inlet port. Connect the outlet hose from the reactor's outlet port back to your aquarium or sump. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
- Install Macroalgae: Carefully open the reactor chamber and introduce your desired macroalgae (e.g., Chaetomorpha, Caulerpa). Ensure the algae is clean and free of pests. Do not overfill the chamber; allow space for growth and water flow.
- Connect Pump and Controller: Connect the circulation pump to the reactor's designated port (if not integrated). Plug the pump and the LED control unit into a suitable power outlet, ensuring a drip loop is formed for safety.
- Initial Fill and Check: Slowly introduce water into the reactor. Check for any leaks at connection points. Allow the reactor to fill completely and ensure water is circulating properly through the macroalgae.

5. Isẹ
Once installed, the Tunze Macroalgae Reactor operates largely automatically. However, some considerations are important for optimal performance:
- Yiyika itanna: The integrated LED lighting is crucial for macroalgae growth. It is recommended to run the light on a reverse photoperiod (e.g., 12 hours on, 12 hours off, opposite to your main display tank lights) to help stabilize pH fluctuations and maximize nutrient export. Adjust the timer on the control unit accordingly.
- Sisan omi: Ensure consistent water flow through the reactor. The flow rate should be sufficient to tumble the macroalgae gently without compacting it, allowing for maximum light exposure and nutrient absorption.
- Abojuto: Regularly observe the macroalgae growth. Healthy, vigorous growth indicates effective nutrient export. Poor growth may suggest insufficient nutrients, light, or flow.

6. Itọju
Regular maintenance ensures the long-term efficiency of your Macroalgae Reactor:
- Algae Harvesting: As the macroalgae grows, it will consume nitrates and phosphates. Periodically (e.g., every 1-2 weeks, depending on growth rate), harvest a portion of the algae (about 30-50%) to export the absorbed nutrients from your system. This also encourages new growth.
- Ninu: Every few months, or as needed, disconnect the reactor and thoroughly clean the internal components, including the pump and reactor chamber, to remove any detritus or calcification. Use a soft brush and aquarium-safe cleaning solutions if necessary. Rinse thoroughly with clean water before reassembly.
- Ayẹwo okun: Periodically check hoses and connections for signs of wear, kinks, or blockages. Replace any damaged components immediately.

|---|---|---|
| No water flow through reactor. | Pump unplugged, clogged, or faulty; kinked hose; airlock. | Check pump power and connections. Clean pump impeller. Straighten hoses. Prime the pump if necessary. |
| Poor macroalgae growth. | Insufficient light, low nutrients, incorrect flow, old algae. | Verify LED light is functioning and on correct cycle. Test water for nitrates/phosphates (may be too low). Adjust flow. Introduce fresh macroalgae. |
| Excessive detritus buildup. | Insufficient flow, infrequent cleaning. | Increase flow slightly if algae is not tumbling. Increase frequency of cleaning and harvesting. |
