The Rode NTG5 is a short, ultra-lightweight shotgun microphone designed for demanding recording applications. Its revolutionary acoustic design, featuring circular ports instead of traditional linear slots, provides unmatched transparency and a natural, uncoloured sound. With a tightly controlled frequency response, smooth off-axis response, and very low self-noise (just 10dBA), the NTG5 delivers spectacular audio quality suitable for location recording and filmmaking. Weighing only 76g and measuring just over 20cm, it is ideal for extended use on long shoots. The microphone incorporates RF-bias circuitry for reliable performance in adverse environments, offering excellent resistance to high humidity, severe cold, damp, and dust.

1. Polar Pattern and Directionality
The NTG5 features a highly directional supercardioid polar pattern. This means it is most sensitive to sounds coming directly from the front and rejects sounds from the sides and rear. This characteristic is ideal for isolating desired audio sources and minimizing background noise.
- Point the microphone directly at your sound source for optimal capture.
- Utilize its off-axis rejection to minimize unwanted ambient noise.
2. Agbara Phantom
The NTG5 requires 48V phantom power. Ensure your recording device or mixer provides this power for the microphone to function correctly. The microphone's low current draw helps conserve battery power on portable recording devices.
3. Wind Protection
Use the appropriate windshield for your recording environment:
- Foam Windshield: For indoor use or light breeze conditions.
- WS10 Furry Windshield: For outdoor use or high wind environments to significantly reduce wind noise.
